Every month, the NamUs puts out a report on the current status of reported Missing Persons cases in the US. It’s worth nothing, it is believed that a large number of missing persons cases go unreported or underreported. That said, January’s numbers are out.
How many people were found missing in January, 2025?
Let’s start with the good news. The NamUs reports that 880 cases were archived in January. These cases were either resolved by finding an alive missing person or locating the deceased individual. The overall outcome continues to be impressive but doesn’t continue to keep up with the pace of people who go missing on a yearly basis. The United States government continues to combat the problem with additional resources, but it’s organizations like
http://ProjectLocate.Org that will continue to close the gap.
How many people went missing in January, 2025?
In total, 48 states reported a total of 1,359 missing people. It’s like this number is much larger, but isn’t reporting numbers not sent in from local law enforcement or families who don’t know to report to NamUS. In the lead by a long shot for the most missing people is Florida who reported 824 new cases. The remainder of the states are as follows:
Texas: 75

The importance of reporting missing people has never been greater. In the world of social media, it can be most effective to start off in the first 24 - 72 hours with a strong social media campaign. It also significantly increases the chances of a successful reuniting and providing the most positive outcome possible
